Centuries ago in Zimbabwe, a king (also known as the Ramambo or Monomatapa) decided that he wanted to capture the moon. Hundreds of workers built a many-storied trestle, higher and higher until it collapsed, killing many people.

The King was deposed, and the Shona people still remember the event today; the moon reminds them never to reach for the impossible.

Nicholas Tandi originated these whimsical Moonheads to memorialize this story of Shona heritage. He carves this Moonhead in Butter Jade.
